Mars Surface Gallery Index

Last Updated June 25, 2005.

This page is an index to all images on display here that have been created using images of Mars taken by landers. All of the images shown here have been digitally enhanced and manipulated in various ways. These images are not meant to provide accurate portrayals of the surface of Mars, except where noted.

The various images of the Martian surface as seen from the ground are taken from data returned by lander missions. There have been a total of only five lander missions that were successful in reaching the surface of Mars and returning useable data. These missions were:

  • Viking I Lander
  • Viking II Lander
  • Mars Pathfinder
  • Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity
  • Mars Exploration Rover Spirit

While my personal tastes have lead me to concentrate on the orbital images of Mars, I have explored ways in which images taken on the surface can be manipulated. Some of them are presented here for your consideration.

The Images

Images are listed here based on the order in which they were added to the web site, not the order in which they were created. The most recently added image appears at the top of the list.
