Mountain Shadows

Mountain Shadows

Image Title: Mountain Shadows
Source: Mars Global Surveyor

Description

A dreamy, slightly abstract view of Martian mountains casting their shadows upon adjacent dunes. The simplicity, the play of light and shadow, and the geometry inherent in the image makes this one of my favorites.

Source Image Background

Mountain Shadows was made from a portion of a Mars Global Surveyor Narrow Angle Camera image of a section of northeastern Noctis Labyrinthus, which is at the westernmost end of Valles Marineris.

Image Processing

All processing to create this image was done using Adobe Photoshop. The color in the image is entirely synthetic and is not meant to be a scientifically realistic representation of the actual colors of the region.

I have created a low resolution, cropped version of Mountain Shadows for use as a desktop wallpaper. I also had to rotate the wallpaper version to fit the aspect ratio of the computer screen. I am making this wallpaper available for your personal use only. It is not to be modified or redistributed in any form by any means. All rights are retained by the artist.
