Description
This is an imagined view of Mars from orbit. If you look closely you will see that the terminator is just crossing Olympus Mons. For this image, I excluded adding a background star field in order to both heighten the sense of isolation and to focus attention exclusively on the planet itself.

Source image data was a global Viking composite image of Mars and a height map created from Digital Elevation Model data.
Image Processing
All processing of this image was done using Adobe Photoshop. This includes noise removal, compositing a global false color map with digital elevation data, tonal adjustments, and techniques to create a pseudo-3D image of the Martian globe.
